Job overview
We are looking for an engaging and people-focused Manager to lead our cleaning team at St Helier Hospital. The successful candidate will work closely with our Head of Site Services and Deputy Head of Site Services, and will be supported to develop fully in the role.
Our cleaning team is 'in house', and we cannot wait to work with the right person to help support our wonderful team to reach their potential whilst delivering a high-quality, cost-effective service.
Main duties of the job
This post holder will be responsible for the overall provision of the cleaning services at one of our acute hospital sites:
1. Adjust work schedules to reflect the service changes, and compile and update work schedules on an ongoing basis.
2. Develop staff rotas to ensure effective service delivery.
3. Manage staff absences in line with Trust policies.
4. Ensure the efficient and effective use of resources within budget, developing and implementing systems to monitor and control resources.
5. Implement quality control systems and regularly participate in monitoring to ensure effective service provision.
6. Participate in problem-solving and conflict handling.
7. Implement policies to meet legal, statutory, and mandatory requirements concerning COSHH, health and safety, and infection control.
8. Participate in the recruitment and retention of staff, continually reviewing existing practices to maintain value for money and agreed performance.
9. Arrange work rotas, approve annual leave, maintain sickness and absence records, and review payroll documentation.
10. Motivate and communicate, creating a team from a group of people through decisions on pay, placement, promotion, and communications on various initiatives.

We operate two busy general hospitals, Epsom Hospital and St Helier Hospital, and run services from other locations, including Sutton Hospital.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* GCSE English/Maths or Equivalent
Desirable criteria
* NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in relevant subject
Experience
Essential criteria
* Staff management – performance, absence, attendance, investigations, and disciplinary hearings.
* Managerial experience working within a Facilities Management (FM) service or similar establishment with substantial experience managing a large team.
* Financial management experience.
* Previous experience of leadership, supporting and mentoring a large team, and team building through effective working practices, procedures, and policies.
Desirable criteria
* Experience in day-to-day operations and adapting to changing legislation.
* Management experience in an NHS environment or similar.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Good interpersonal skills and ability to relate to people effectively at all levels within the Trust.
* Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
* Wide knowledge of the department and Support Services.
* Ability to provide expert advice on services managed.
* Good knowledge/awareness of H&S policies, procedures, and practices.
Desirable criteria
* Knowledge of NHS policies & procedures.
