Ophthalmic Vision Science (OVS) Assistants are an integral part of the patient pathway at Moorfields and pivotal to our clinical services.
The OVS Assistant is part of a multiprofessional team. The role involves using a range of highly specialised technology and imaging equipment to take various images of the eyes and collect data such as eye pressures and visual fields data. OVS Assistants also support the patients with their needs, either directly or by escalating appropriately. This enables clinicians to make important decisions in the care and treatment of our patients.
As an OVS Assistant you may be the first person a patient will see and therefore it is important to instil the Trust values within your everyday working practices.

The post holder works as part of a team under supervision and will:
· Participate in the delivery of patient centred care, always maintaining a compassionate and professional attitude.
· Contribute to the ward/clinic/department/organisation.
· Support senior staff in the provision of a caring and safe environment.
· Demonstrate competence in generic and specialist skills following the completion of the appropriate training and education and within twelve months from commencement in role.
· Function at a competency level in line with the requirements of the post and achieve and maintain both mandatory and statutory training requirements associated with the role.

Be a competent user of a variety of technical equipment (computerised and mechanical)
To attain competencies : In Visual Acuity, eye pressure measurement, instillation of eye drops under the supervision and guidance of the qualified staff nurse, senior technician/HCA, technical skills of OCT, HRT, auto-refraction and visual fields having followed the Trusts required protocol.
To act as chaperone when required.
To assist with the monitoring of equipment and stocks as required.
