SUMMARY DESCRIPTION The primary focus of this position is to safely transport Clients to and from the Senior Centers and various activities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES This listing is representative of the duties and responsibilities of the position, but is not to be construed as all inclusive: Transport Clients by picking them up at their homes and returning them there, following an established route. Transport seniors to the Senior Centers and other destinations as determined by the Center Director. Assist the seniors safely on and off the bus as needed and with any packages. Responsible for observing and following all applicable laws including posted speed limits, safe following distances, and defensive driving techniques as well as Agency policies. Responsible for immediately reporting any accidents or incidents. Responsible for inspecting and cleaning the inside and outside of the vehicle daily, completing minor repairs, and regular maintenance. Report any problems or unsafe conditions to the Transportation Program Director. Responsible for maintaining a daily log including mileage, maintenance, and ridership. Complete all other reports as required by the Program Director on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual basis. Attend all training and safety meetings. Assist Center Directors with member services as needed; example calling Bingo, delivering Meals on Wheels, and assisting with center activities. Responsible for recruiting clients to increase ridership. Responsible for requesting transportation donations from Clients. Contributes to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned or required. CONTACTS Primary contacts include: Clients who ride the bus Congregate members Center Directors KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Minimum requirements for this position are: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Must possess a valid state of Delaware CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) which remains in good standing and proof of insurance. Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds. Must maintain current Delaware Defensive Driving Certification. Knowledge of required routine vehicle maintenance. Must possess knowledge of the geographical area. Ability to read and follow maps and/or verbal and written directions. Good general health is necessary. Must possess a current physical examination and be physically examined every 12 months including drug/alcohol tests and optical examination in addition to random drug/alcohol testing. Must possess a personal cell telephone to be carried on the CHEER bus in case of emergencies. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one or small group situations to Clients and other Agency employees. REPORTING This position reports to the Transportation Program Director PRIMARY WORK LOCATION Lewes primarily, however the position will include two other additional locations. WORK HOURS Hours Vary. Extended work hours are periodically required to support programs and activities. Must be able to work occasional evening hours. Monday - Friday: 7:30AM – 4:00 PM. Subject to change.
