Job Title: Inclusion Assistant (maternity cover)
Grade 6 £26,409 (Term Time Only: Salary to be Pro-rated)
30 hours per week, term time only (Monday to Friday 8.30am - 3.00pm)
The Local Governing Committee is seeking to appoint an Inclusion Assistant (maternity cover) to work with specific children who have additional needs.
We are seeking an individual to join our team who:
1. is caring and understanding of children’s needs.
2. has high expectations of children’s behaviour and attainment.
3. is very well organised & efficient.
4. has experience of directly working with children with SEND including Autistic Spectrum.
5. is committed to helping children progress and gain independence.
6. can demonstrate a good standard of English and Maths.
7. enjoys working with children, is flexible, adaptable and able to work successfully in a team.
The job will involve working closely with and supporting staff and children across the school, especially those with EHCPs, helping them to succeed within a classroom setting.
Experience of the following skills or programmes are desirable:
1. understanding of how to de-escalate children when they are dysregulated.
2. knowledge of using Picture Exchange Communication and experience of delivering a Speech and Language programme, and how to embed these targets in the interactions and activities they lead.
3. social skill interventions, social stories/comic strip conversations.
4. use of TEACHH or ‘now-next’ type approaches to encourage engagement.
5. support to understand what is expected in social situations.
6. using a reduced amount and level of language emphasising key words.
7. be emotionally available to support children and who can provide high levels of reassurance that they are valued.
8. be a physical presence to give structure and outline next steps for activities.
9. Ability to deliver an individualised multi-sensory curriculum in small steps with daily opportunities for overlearning, with flexibility, and opportunities to share and celebrate success.
The school has been praised in its Ofsted report for the care and attention it provides for children with additional needs so that they can take part in the full range of learning. This post will involve day-to-day class support as well as delivering bespoke additional support for each individual child, including speech and language programmes.
