We are seeking a Specialty Doctor in General Adult Psychiatry. The post is based with the Hemel Hempstead Community Mental Health Service. This involves providing clinical leadership, providing diagnostic assessments and treatment to service users with severe, complex, and high risk psychiatric conditions. The ACMHS (Adult Community Mental Health Services) core team unites specialist medical, nursing, social work, occupational therapy, psychology, support workers STAR workers and administrative staff within the service reporting to a single management structure. ACMHS also have other specialist staff such as vocational support staff, staff specialising in Psychological Therapies. This includes Psychotherapy, DBT, CBT, Art and Drama Therapy, and group therapy. 2 years experience within psychiatry is an essential criteria for specialty doctor posts, should you not hold this experience you may interviewed and considered for an alternative posting which will different in grade and pay. Please note - we run a collated interview approach for all SAS vacancies we have across the Trust, this means that you will be considered for the posting you applied for in the first instance, if this posting is filled but you are deemed appointable you may be offered an alternative posting which may differ in department and location. The post holder will be responsible for the assessment and treatment of people of working age living in their catchment area who are referred or otherwise present to secondary care mental health services. Initial triage by the Single Point of Access (SPA) determines whether the service user meets the criteria for a secondary care assessment., Service users with psychotic or non- psychotic mental health disorders (severe, complex, high risk or with diagnostic uncertainty) and vulnerable adults are referred for a face to face assessment at the Initial Assessment clinics at The Marlowes. Service users are usually offered a joint MDT assessment using a semi-structured needs-based tool plus a clinical assessment. The joint assessment allows a holistic assessment of the patient from more than one perspective. In certain circumstances a single assessment will be offered with a doctor. Following assessment, service users will be allocated to a recovery care pathway, if they satisfy the criteria for a secondary care intervention in terms of severity, risk, complexity, treatment resistance or vulnerability. Otherwise, they will be signposted appropriately or referred elsewhere. The role of the psychiatrist is to provide comprehensive assessments, formulate biopsychosocial care plans, and offer evidence- based treatment and advice. The service is recovery focused and the caseload in clinics will be subject to active caseload management.
