Do you have experience in working in Infection Prevention and Control in the acute setting? Are you looking for a new challenge? At Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT) the Infection Prevention and Control Team (IPCT) are looking to recruit an experienced and passionate infection prevention and control specialist into the above position. The post holder will be instrumental in introducing new members of the team to the speciality and building strong clinical relationships. The role will be integral to the service’s implementation strategy as part of the annual plan which will involve designing teaching strategies to help the Trust to adapt post pandemic.
The post holder will be a role model for infection prevention and control, must be able to work independently across the setting, be an effective member of the wider team and demonstrate excellent communication skills.
Working in this team will also support you to work autonomously to create quality improvement projects in IPC, using your creative and leadership skills whilst having support from the team to allow you to achieve these goals.
• Provides specialist advice to professional, ancillary and support staff on nursing care of individual or groups of patients, either with infection or at risk of developing infection.
• Investigates outbreaks of hospital infection with reference to their source and mode of spread and following risk assessment advices on relevant measures for control.
• Communicates information to other members of the Infection Prevention & Control Team and other staff where relevant (e.g. Public Health, Operations Manager, Clinical Managers).
• Interprets laboratory results and provides appropriate advice on management of individuals and groups. Explains the significance of laboratory reports to hospital staff and relates clinical information to laboratory staff when required.
• Visits wards and departments to audit, evaluate and update prevention and control of infection measures and facilitates the change process empowering staff to take ownership of local issues.
• Participates in both Trust and National Surveillance Schemes for Healthcare Associated infection in liaison with the other members of the Infection Prevention & Control Team, appropriate wards and other agencies.
• Uses motivational, negotiation, training and reassurance skills in order to resolve issues and to achieve goals (e.g. instigation of cohort bays).
• Develops co-operation from staff and strategies for overcoming barriers to understanding.
