Closing date for applications: Tues July 2 2024 Upper School - Science & Maths Teacher We are delighted to be opening our Upper School in September 2024, providing students from 14 - 16 with a fabulous opportunity to study for the Crossfields Level 2 Integrated Education Diploma awarded by the Crossfields Institute (equivalent to 5 - 8 GCSE's) evidenced through a portfolio of work. In addition, students will also study GCSE Maths & English Language. As part of this exciting development, we are looking for a part time Maths & Science Teacher. The successful candidate will deliver AQA GCSE Maths to either the Foundation or Higher groups, working alongside another teacher who would take the other tier. They would also be required to deliver the Natural Science module of the Crossfields Diploma and in particular the Physics and Chemistry strands. Steiner Waldorf Pedagogy places a huge emphasis on observation, questioning and practical experimentation. The successful candidate will have a relevant maths and science qualification and/or experience of teaching in maths and science and be able to provide evidence of their competency in their specialism. A teaching qualification would be desirable. Most of all, we are looking for a candidate who is in sympathy with Steiner Waldorf Ethos, has an aptitude for working with children and is passionate about their area of expertise. This post constitutes 4 hours a week of Maths teaching for Class 9 (Year 10) to a group of no more than 20 students increasing to 8 hours the following year for Class 10 (Year 11). The Science will be taught in 2 blocks of 3 weeks with a weekly Science lesson. This will increase to 4 blocks the following year and 2 weekly Science lessons. This post is the equivalent of 0.2 FTE in the first year and 0.4 FTE in the second year. We are also looking for a Class 9 Guardian who will monitor progress and supervise the common room. This would be an opportunity to increase hours of work if desired. Subject Responsibilities: Maths Deliver and teach AQA GCSE Maths Foundation/Higher, including revision sessions and techniques ahead of examinations Develop confidence in maths through a variety of teaching techniques Set regular homework to aid student learning Help students achieve their full potential in Foundation or Higher maths Undertake appropriate preparation through knowledge of the GCSE syllabus, study/learning techniques to ensure high quality delivery which meets the full curriculum requirements Science Deliver and teach the Natural Sciences element of the Crossfield Diploma Undertake appropriate preparation through knowledge of the Crossfield Diploma syllabus, study/learning techniques to ensure high quality delivery which meets the full curriculum requirements Ensure specific tasks are set according to student ability Teach students to understand natural sciences in a historical, developmental and contemporary context Help students to develop their natural curiosity in relation to phenomena, natural science and its practical applications Help and guide students to achieve their best portfolio of work Oversee student's coursework to ensure this is completed within a given timescale Model and build up Student's practical skills to ensure they are enabled to produce work of a high standard Assess and evaluate the quality of students’ work Enable students to follow instructions and to use equipment effectively and safely Manage and maintain a safe and tidy work space.
