Job Introduction
This is an exciting opportunity to join the management team for the national English language radio station for Wales - BBC Radio Wales. This Content Editor role is ideal for someone with extensive leadership and editorial experience.
BBC Radio Wales produces 140 hours of output a week, from production bases across Wales, with a broad range of content - including News, Politics, Sport, Entertainment, Comedy and Music. The Content Editor is a management role driving the station’s creativity and helping to shape future strategy.
Main Responsibilities
* The Content Editor will assume editorial responsibility for Radio Wales daytime programmes Monday-Sunday.
* The Content Editor will act as the deputy for the Managing Editor for BBC Radio Wales when necessary, representing at key cross-departmental meetings and with external stakeholders.
* The Content Editor will actively manage budgets for daytime programmes and be responsible for delivering any outside broadcasts, special projects or additional programmes within the allocated spend.
* The Content Editor will have a weekly slate of pre-recorded programmes to comply for broadcast and will be required to comply programmes from evening output on occasion.
* The Content Editor will lead creative sessions with the Managing Editor to facilitate content ideas and programme innovation with the Radio Wales production team.
Are you the right candidate?
You’ll be an experienced radio professional, with extensive knowledge of the industry on air and technically. As well as strong knowledge of BBC Radio Wales audiences, programmes and presenters, you’ll also need to demonstrate an understanding of the wider audio market in Wales and how best to encourage audience growth.
You’ll have sound creative and editorial judgement and be able to demonstrate the ability to oversee and exec-produce internal and external production teams. Working closely with the Editor of Radio Wales and Sport, the Managing Editor, and the Production Manager, you’ll shape and deliver content in line with station editorial priorities and the BBC’s policies and guidelines.
You’ll have the ability to engage and inspire both in-house and independent programme-making teams, providing editorial leadership and guidance. Well organised and a strong communicator and planner, you’ll be confident leading change and delivering efficiency.
You’ll be a leader who has successfully developed creative partnerships and influenced key business stakeholders.
