An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Endoscopy Unit of a Deputy Ward Sister/Charge Nurse position. The successful candidate will work alongside the Ward Sisters to support the Nursing team to provide the highest quality care for our patients.
The Endoscopy Unit has 5 procedure rooms at St Thomas Hospital and 1 procedure room at Guy's Hospital. Caring for our specialist patients will give the successful candidate the opportunity to develop a wide variety of clinical knowledge & skills. We will support this development by sending you on study days.
The successful candidate will be working across both the Guy's and St. Thomas' sites. We are a state of the art modern busy unit performing diagnostic and specialist therapeutic procedures for patients from across London and the South East of England.
• We are open 7 days a week.
• The shift pattern is 4 x 9.5 hour shifts per week.
• Shifts are either 8am to 6pm or 9am to 7pm.
• We provide an out of hours emergency bleed service which is supported by nurses once they have been fully trained.
• We attend other areas in the hospital to assist with emergency procedures.
• National training passport for competence is available which will allow you to take this competence anywhere in the country.

As a Deputy ward sister, you will be working closely with the Sister and senior team. You will be expected to undertake managerial duties and support all members of the team. You will also be able to manage the unit in the absence of the ward sister, including all daily unit routines and any matters escalated to them.
The role will encompass specific responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care and expertise within the clinical area. To help lead and coordinate the clinical, managerial and educational requirements of the clinical area ensuring the highest standards of nursing practice and care are delivered as reflected by the unit philosophy. Ensuring the safety and well being of services users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centered care principles.

- Provide strong clinical leadership skills and inspire the nursing team towards a common goal.
- To be involved in rostering and allocation/approval of bank & agency staff.
- Co-ordinating the day to day running of the ward to deliver safe and effective care.
- To deputise for the Sister/Charge Nurse in their absence.
- Deal with complaints in a calm and efficient manner.
- To be a role model in delivering safe and effective patient care.
- To assess, plan and implement care, provide specialist advice and maintain associated and accurate records.
• To provide leadership, support and guidance to staff in monitoring the
planning delivery and evaluation of individualised care.
