Our client is looking for a skilled Project Quantity Surveyor to oversee the financial and contractual aspects of data centre projects in the Northampton region. Key responsibilities include managing costs from project inception to completion, traveling between sites to ensure financial efficiency, procuring packages, and overseeing contract administration. The role also involves financial reporting, forecasting, and managing subcontractor performance. Key Responsibilities
* Site-based leadership and travel: You will manage multiple data centre projects from site to site, ensuring all cost and contractual duties are managed effectively. Regular travel to project sites in the Northampton region is required.
* Project oversight from concept to completion: Lead the commercial aspects of the project from initial design through to handover. You will be responsible for cost control, contract administration, and maintaining clear communication with the project teams.
* Procurement and tendering: Lead procurement activities, securing the best possible outcomes from subcontractors and suppliers. This includes preparing tender documents, negotiating with suppliers, and ensuring contracts are awarded in line with project goals.
* Contract management: Oversee all aspects of contract management, including the review of terms and conditions, assessment of potential risks, and ensuring the company is protected at every stage. You will ensure that contractual obligations are met by all parties, managing variations, and final account settlements.
* Financial reporting and forecasting: Provide accurate financial forecasts, budget reports, and valuation assessments throughout the project lifecycle. You will work closely with the commercial manager and finance teams to ensure all projects are financially viable and meet company targets.
* Subcontractor management: Develop and manage a trusted network of subcontractors, overseeing their performance to ensure cost efficiency and quality control on site.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent: A strong academic background is essential, with a degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
* Minimum of 3-4 years of experience: The ideal candidate will have at least 3-4 years of experience working as a quantity surveyor in an industrial or commercial setting. Experience with large-scale projects (ideally valued at over £10m) is highly desirable.
* Industrial and commercial project experience: Prior experience working on large-scale industrial or commercial construction projects, particularly within the data centre or high-tech sectors, will be a significant advantage.
* Excellent contractual and commercial acumen: You must be well-versed in various contract forms such as NEC or JCT, with strong skills in contract negotiation and administration.
* Analytical and problem-solving skills: Your ability to analyse complex data, assess risks, and provide clear financial reporting is key. You must also be able to think critically and solve problems efficiently.
* Strong IT proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and construction software systems is essential. Knowledge of cost management and project management software is a bonus.
* Driving licence: Due to the nature of this role, a full, valid driving licence is required for travel between sites.
