Vacancy for Service Manager (HSDS) at Archaeology Data Service (ADS)
19 July 2024
University of York - King's Manor
£44,263 - £54,395 a year
Full-Time
Department
The Archaeology Data Service (ADS) is a world-leading digital repository providing digital data archiving services for UK archaeology and heritage. We are an established component of UKRI’s digital research infrastructure and are also active in international collaborations as a leading member of the ARIADNE Research Infrastructure. Established in 1996, we hold the Core Trust Seal and are the only digital repository to hold Archive Service Accreditation from the National Archives. Our Collections Policy is broad, covering all aspects of tangible heritage, and we are developing a new area of focus on Heritage and Conservation Science. We are based in the University of York but work closely with external partners in Higher Education and in the public and commercial archaeological sectors.
Role
This role arises from a successful £14.4m bid to AHRC by a consortium led by ADS to develop and host a Heritage Science Data Service (HSDS). The Service Manager will be responsible for the establishment and operational delivery of an effective service for users and depositors, liaising with funders and partners, and working with the ADS/HSDS Director and Assistant Director to manage the strategic development of the new service. They will help oversee the work of the HSDS Collections Development Manager and work with the Training Manager to develop new training materials. They will be expected to represent the HSDS at national and international levels and ensure the successful integration of the HSDS within the existing portfolio of ADS activities and services.
