Main Purpose of Role: Undertake design and engineering work and applies subject matter in-depth knowledge to provide high end technical support. Some independent judgment required in the collection, assembly and preliminary determination of engineering data. Responsibilities: Technical: Design and layout of Civil facilities associated with the gas, oil and water sectors. On sites such as compressor and pump stations, AGIs etc, this will include layout and design of buildings and shelters, roads and drainage infrastructure, tank foundations and containment bunds, and pipeline facilities. Preparation of calculations by hand or with the use of proprietary and in-house software, design reports and working with CAD designers in the production of Civil drawings. Preparation of MTOs for individual structures and overall facilities and infrastructure. Preparation of specifications, reports and presentations, and input to feasibility studies, design basis, etc. Scope, carry out or manage and supervise surveys of greenfield, brownfield or existing sites. Draft, in conjunction with specialist engineers, scope of works for geotechnical site investigation contracts, supervise the same and critically review factual and interpretative reports. Generic: Ensure designs meet statutory, company, client and project requirements for integrity, effectiveness, safety and robustness. Ability to work at the appropriate level of detail on feasibility, FEED, detailed design, and EPC projects. Provide input to and work within the nominated project schedule in a project team or independently. Organise and prioritise disciplined work tasks to ensure maximum efficiency and performance. Maintain awareness of project CTRs and activity hours and highlight any potential discipline time overrun. Work in accordance with corporate, project and client procedures and QHSE system requirements. Co-ordination and interfacing with other discipline staff and client engineers as required to carry out inter-discipline design work. Be familiar with and maintain an interest in relevant types of documents from other interfacing disciplines. Input to tendering for new projects where required. Ensure adherence to the Company Health & Safety and Environmental Policies. Knowledge / Experience (Skills): Possess a strong technical background in the design and layout of industrial facilities and infrastructure, preferably but not essentially in the oil and gas industry on pipeline facilities, tank farms, process plants, etc. Knowledge of the relevant National and International Standards and Codes of Practice. Familiar with the geotechnical aspects of Civil design and interpreting the results of site investigations. Knowledge of US (e.g. ACI, AISC, ASTM, API) standards would be helpful. Cost awareness, environmental awareness. Hands-on familiarity with common Civil design software such as TEDDs, Micro drainage, PDS, etc. would be useful. General computer literacy with MS Excel, Word, Outlook, Windows and the Internet. Ability to communicate and work in harmony with own and other discipline engineers in project teams. Able to work independently and be highly organised. Discretion and confidentiality always. Qualifications: Engineering degree and around 5 years’ experience post-graduation. Member of ICE or I Struct E working towards chartered status.
