What you’ll be doing:
1. Developing sound technical solutions to issues arising during construction and commissioning of a Naval Plant Reactor
2. Support or act as the engineering member of the test and authorisation groups (depending on experience)
3. Specialise in EC&I; discipline
4. Author Chief Engineer Declaration Statements based on engineering review of the as-built as-tested status of the plant to support entry into nuclear build phase
5. Carry out nuclear safety assessment of submarine design changes and deviations from the submarine design intent
6. Ensuring the design intent of the Naval Reactor Plant is maintained during build and test activities on site
7. Providing technical rationale and sound engineering recommendations to Rolls-Royce and MoD to challenge existing requirements
8. Proving an interface with Build/Test teams for engineering solutions
9. Enabling efficient programme execution with engineering solutions
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
1. Degree qualified Electrical Engineering or Control and Instrumentation Engineering
2. Experience of supporting build and commissioning of Electrical and/or Control Systems
3. Demonstrable understanding of 3 phase/single phase machines; digital and analogue based control systems and mechanical interfaces
4. Technical report writing skills
Desirable:
1. Experience of justifying design change, ideally on a Nuclear Plant
2. Previous Nuclear Plant experience
3. Knowledge of the Nuclear Industry and Nuclear Regulations (or other highly regulated industry)
4. Exposure to Microsoft Office Suite

The Platform Nuclear Engineering Department team:
As a Principal Engineer – Nuclear (EC&I;), you will be supporting the design, build and test activities on the Naval Reactor Plant (NRP) across multiple programmes to ensure the design intent is met in the final product. This includes coordinating and leading the resolution of a diverse set of issues that arise during the build and test of the reactor plant, with a strong emphasis on developing technical solutions to problems, as well as ensuring that the associated safety case is adequate, couple with providing advice to various internal teams such as Engineering Delivery, Test & Commissioning, Operations and Project. Externally, you will be required to represent the business and operate alongside our Enterprise partners, namely the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Rolls-Royce Marine Power. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarine roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
