There is an exciting opportunity to join staff at Emily Wilding Davison School. We aim to appoint a teacher who will plan and deliver to Key Stage 3 and 4, creative and inspirational lessons, as well as understanding and supporting students who have Social and Emotional Mental Health needs. Students at Emily Wilding Davison School follow the national curriculum and follow bespoke pathways. We are looking for a practitioner who has a range of skills and experiences and who can join and complement the school’s ‘Ethos of Excellence’.
Emily Wilding Davison School remains Northumberland County Council’s only designated provision for pupils aged 11 – 16, with Social, Emotional and Mental health (SEMH). The school is co-educational catering for pupils from all over Northumberland. Our aim is to provide a high quality educational community which offers life-changing opportunities in a safe, creative and exciting environment. The school has excellent onsite facilities including a large sports hall, outdoor areas, hair salon and a fully equipped gym.
Applications are invited from ECTs and experienced practitioners who have brilliant organisational and communication skills, who are solution-focused, work calmly under pressure and who have the ability to form positive relationships quickly. You must also be able to demonstrate recent, successful impact within your current role.
Experience of working in an SEMH setting is preferred however not essential and ideally candidates will have a wide range of skills through which they can engage hard to reach learners. The ability to plan and deliver an innovative and engaging curriculum is essential.
The successful applicant will benefit from significant support from our Senior Leadership Team. A personalised CPD package will be provided to support your transition into the school.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Oversee the day to day operation of the SEMH classroom base.
* Establish, maintain and model strong positive relationships with all pupils based on our school values.
* Identify the academic learning needs of each pupil and plan engaging, challenging lessons.
* Liaise with pastoral staff to ensure education health and care targets are being worked towards.
* Work in partnership with a range of agencies and providers as appropriate to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum offer.
* Work with colleagues to design and implement pupils' positive behaviour support plans.
* Use resources effectively to bring about improved standards of engagement and achievement for all learners.
* Devise and apply criteria for evaluating success with pupils who experience SEMH needs which impact upon their learning and enable them to access the curriculum.
* Effectively use Earwig to log and assess progress.
* Take responsibility for tracking pupil progress and for collecting and monitoring data to support teaching and learning.
* Ensure effective systems of communication, including feedback about pupils learning to inform future planning.
* Take an active role in encouraging good attendance of pupils by working with parents and carers.
* Routinely plan, deliver and evaluate high quality lessons taking account of pupils prior attainment and age related expectations.
* Know when and how to differentiate appropriately using approaches which enable pupils to be taught effectively.
* Develop and manage appropriate intervention strategies that support such progress.
* Lead the adaptation of teaching by directing the use of additional adults to ensure the needs of all our pupils are met.
* Assess regularly and accurately in line with the marking policy in order to ensure pupils make good or better progress.
* Be accountable and aspirational for the outcomes of all pupils in the class and ensure that almost all pupils achieve in line with school expectations for both progress and attainment.
* Establish a safe and stimulating learning environment, rooted in mutual respect, taking joint responsibility with all colleagues for whole school behaviour management to ensure consistency throughout the school in line with the schools Behaviour Policy.
* Employ effective strategies to secure sound relationships with parents in order to develop their understanding of the requirements of the curriculum, their child’s progress, attainment, targets and well being.
* Have a positive impact on the work of others by inspiring, motivating and challenging them to develop their skills in order to improve the quality of teaching and outcomes for pupils.
* Carry out a share of supervisory duties in accordance with published rotas.
* Participate in appropriate meetings with colleagues, parents/carers and partners relative to the above duties.
* Support the wider life of the school by organising and attending out of school events and run an extra-curricular activity that benefits the pupils and families of Emily Wilding Davison school.
* Conduct all activities in a professional manner at all times.
* Ensure compliance with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, security, safeguarding and confidentiality.
* Maintain confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding procedures.
* Any other duties commensurate with the role.
