This opportunity is within the US Casualty Team within the London Wholesale Casualty unit. The US Casualty team writes mainly open market Insureds that are generally Fortune 1000 companies. Insureds are domiciled in the US, and the account is split among Global Fortune (Industrial, Manufacturing, Mining, Chemical, OLT), Commercial Construction, Rail (Passenger and Freight), Life Science, and Trucking. The team is led by Glen Secular and consists of 3 additional Underwriters and an Assistant Underwriter.
As an Underwriter, working within the London Wholesale/Lloyd’s D&F market, you will be responsible for delivering a profitable & sustainable ‘Underwriting’ service to your clients. Your key tasks include:
1. Underwriting business within the agreed business plan and individual authority.
2. Supporting the business planning and forecasting process.
3. Monitoring financial exposure within outlined limits.
4. Monitoring premium income to ensure it remains within set limits.
5. Maintaining awareness of all claims advised while supporting and providing input on settlement of claims.
6. Building and maintaining relationships with brokers and clients.
7. Supporting the design and structure of risks.

What will your essential responsibilities include?
1. Reviewing submissions including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports while conducting appropriate research to determine the degree of risk for each account.
2. Calculating appropriate risk premium by considering the risk costs inherent within the current Underwriting Property environment.
3. Proactively advising, assisting, servicing, and following up with clients on insurance and risk management matters to ensure satisfaction and fulfilment of their insurance requirements.
4. International travel and regular attendance at the Lloyd’s Box.
5. Effective relationship management to initiate opportunities for cross-selling offered products and ensuring account retention.
6. Controlling timely implementation of new and renewed accounts according to quality standards.
7. Reviewing loss control reports and managing policy endorsement requests to process any necessary changes to the policy.
8. Working collaboratively in a team environment, assisting underwriters, underwriting assistants, and management team.
You will report to the Underwriting Manager.
We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
1. Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience).
2. Under technical direction, works within significant limits and authority on assignments of higher technical complexity and coordination.
3. Possesses demonstrated technical knowledge and skills, including product and industry, reflective of successful progression through various job family levels.
4. Advanced analytical, negotiation, and sales/marketing skills.
5. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
6. Interpersonal Savvy - Demonstrated ability to build and maintain good insured and broker contacts.
7. Ability to develop and understand business processes, strategy, and planning.
8. Collaborative team player who provides creative solutions and ideas for resolution.
