What it's like to work here
Reporting to the site manager, you’ll be part of a small team of 3 working at The Firs: Elgar's Birthplace with support from the South Worcestershire portfolio. As well as working with our passionate team of volunteers who love chatting to visitors and telling them the story of Elgar, being a small team means there are opportunities to expand your skills.
The Firs is the birthplace to Sir Edward Elgar, one of Britain's greatest composers. He is known for writing 'Land of Hope and Glory' and the 'Enigma Variations' but here you will learn more behind the man who wrote these masterpieces. With our modern visitor centre you can explore some of his personal objects and manuscripts. When you step into the humble cottage you will get a glimpse of the world the great musician was born in and with a garden, woodland and orchard, we have loads to explore here.
What you'll be doing
Visitors are a vital part of what we do. As the Service Assistant, it’s your role to ensure that the welcome our visitors receive is perfect, setting them up for an amazing experience for the rest of the day.
As part of your daily role, you will be working alongside our staff team and volunteers in delivering outstanding customer service across the property, welcoming and admitting visitors, and providing information and orientation.
With training you will work on our property tills selling admission tickets, processing payments of activities and events and promoting our Growing Support strategy (Memberships/Donations/Fundraising). You will also promote events, offers, products and benefits of actively supporting the National Trust.
Additional activities will include supporting across the property/portfolio when needed and general cleaning in the visitor centre will also be required.
