Job Title: Management Accountant - Waste Disposal Team (Hybrid)
About the Role ...
We are looking for a qualified and experienced Management Accountant to join the Waste Disposal Team, part of a hosted service supporting both Cumberland and Westmorland & Furness Councils. This is a key role in supporting budget management and financial forecasting, working with a budget of approximately £43 million annually (circa £4 million per month).
You will be responsible for analysing and interpreting validated financial data, preparing regular management accounting reports, and identifying and escalating financial trends to support strategic decision-making. Reporting directly to the Budget Holder for the Waste Disposal Team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring effective financial control and accurate forecasting for the department.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Interrogate and analyse validated financial data to support budgeting, forecasting, and trend identification.
2. Prepare and present regular management accounting reports to the Budget Holder.
3. Monitor and manage a budget of circa £43 million per annual.
4. Identify and escalate financial trends or discrepancies to inform strategic decision-making.
5. Support financial forecasting processes and provide insight into expenditure patterns.
6. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure financial efficiency across the Waste Disposal Team.
7. Work with monthly budgets around £4 million, reviewing bills and financial records.
Qualifications and Experience:
8. Level 4 or above CIMA qualification (or equivalent in Accountancy).
9. Proven background as a Management Accountant, ideally with experience in budget management and financial reporting.
10. Strong analytic and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data.
11. Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise with senior stakeholders.
12. Experience working in public sector finance is desirable but not essential.
