Astute's Nuclear team is partnering with a bespoke engineering provider who specialise in offering solutions to the nuclear and defence sectors. They are currently looking to recruit a Mechanical Engineer for its Chorley site.
The Mechanical Engineer you will develop concept, scheme, and detail designs while ensuring quality standards and safety requirements are met. The role comes with a salary of up to £50,000 per annum (or £40 an hour, if contractor).

Responsibilities and duties
Reporting to the Principle Mechanical Engineer you will:
Develop 3D models and technical drawings that comply with safety regulations and design standards.
Work closely with the team to produce risk assessments, calculate initial scoping, and ensure the design meets UKCA/CE marking standards.
Collaborate with Principal Engineers to monitor project status, identify any project variances, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
Generate and check all technical documentation and drawings that support engineering solutions, following rigorous quality and configuration control processes.
Engage with internal teams and external stakeholders to integrate inputs and resolve technical issues that arise during design, manufacturing, and installation stages.
Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
Foundation Degree or HND in an engineering discipline
Background in engineering design and development, with a solid understanding of safety regulations and standards (e.g., LOLER, PUWER, CDM).
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across teams and disciplines.
