Junior Design Engineer
Location: Huddersfield
Salary up to £34,000
Purpose of the Role:
We are seeking a talented and motivated individual to join our design team. The primary focus of this role is to assist in the creation and timely delivery of innovative, bespoke industrial process engineering solutions. You'll work collaboratively to design effective products that meet customer-specific requirements. As part of a small team, you’ll play a key role in delivering one-off, low-volume products, as opposed to high-volume standard items.
Key Responsibilities
* Contribute to the design of mechanical systems and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) using 2D AutoCAD and 3D AutoCAD Inventor software.
* Work closely with other departments to deliver complex design projects within tight deadlines.
* Execute design tasks under the direction of the Design Manager, ensuring designs enhance manufacturing output, maintain efficiency, and reduce costs.
* Identify and implement improvements to streamline design processes, ensuring quality and minimizing waste.
* Support the verification and revision of drawings and issuing Bills of Materials (BOMs) for purchasing and production teams.
* Conduct mechanical design and risk assessments in line with regulatory and customer requirements.
* Interpret and adapt customer-specific engineering and hygiene standards into designs as required.
* Maintain commercial awareness to ensure cost-effective design solutions, reporting changes to the Operations Manager.
* Ensure project technical data is accurately captured and recorded in the company’s system.
* Assist in creating customer handover manuals and provide technical support during installations when necessary.
* Address manufacturing queries related to design in a timely and competent manner.
Key Skills & Experience
* Strong background in mechanical design, ideally within special purpose machinery.
* Ability to take ownership of projects and make sound decisions with minimal management support.
* Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles and experience with technical calculations.
* Attention to detail and the ability to deliver both technical and aesthetically pleasing solutions.
* Strong communication skills, capable of working effectively with customers, suppliers, and team members.
* Experience managing technical projects, meeting deadlines, and delivering to milestones.
* Strong team player with excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize competing demands.
* Commercially minded, with a proven ability to help deliver projects on time and within budget.
* Experience mentoring junior team members and providing support when necessary.
* Proficient in IT and analytical problem-solving, with the ability to write detailed technical reports.
Qualifications
* Minimum HNC qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
* Experience with a 3D software packaged
