Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Volunteer Social Worker where you will play a vital role in providing support to individuals affected by HIV in Derby/shire. You will offer emotional support, guidance, and practical assistance to help our clients manage their day-to-day challenges. This role is ideal for compassionate, empathetic, and resourceful individuals who are committed to making a difference in the lives of vulnerable people in the community.
Duties
* Client Support: Provide one-on-one support to individuals affected by HIV, helping them navigate personal, health, and social challenges. Offer a safe, non-judgmental space for clients to share their concerns.
* Advocacy: Act as an advocate for clients' rights, ensuring they have access to healthcare, housing, and other essential resources. Work with local agencies and health services to coordinate additional support.
* Referral & Networking: Connect clients with relevant resources, including housing services, healthcare, food banks, counselling, and other community services.
* Education & Awareness: Educate clients and their families on HIV management and reduce stigma by providing accurate information and promoting HIV awareness.
* Crisis Intervention: Respond to clients in crisis situations, assessing immediate needs, offering reassurance, and guiding them to appropriate emergency services.
* Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions in accordance with data protection and confidentiality policies.
* Community Engagement: Participate in community events and awareness programs aimed at supporting individuals living with HIV and raising awareness about HIV-related issues.
Key Skills and Experience
* Qualifications: Background in social work, or a related field (qualified social workers are encouraged, though students or trainees may also apply).
* Skills: Strong communication, empathy, active listening, and problem-solving skills.
* Experience: Previous experience in social work, counselling, or working with vulnerable groups is an asset.
* Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and adhere to confidentiality policies.
* Commitment to Equality: Respect for diversity and a commitment to anti-discrimination and inclusion.
* Availability: Flexible schedule with a commitment to a minimum of 4 hours per week.
