CQC Registered Manager - Domiciliary Care Services
Location: Dartford, Kent
A CQC registered manager has many responsibilities which they have to perform in order to run a care service safely and effectively. There are specific requirements you have to meet as a registered manager under regulation 7. You need to be committed, accountable and take ownership of your responsibilities seriously. Being a registered manager has some legal responsibilities and can result in prosecution if there are serious breaches.
The main fundamental role is the shared responsibility enshrined in law which registered managers have along with the registered provider (Care Organisation). You are required to ensure your services meet all fundamental standards, regulations and legislation.
As a CQC Registered Manager, you will be expected to manage one or more regulated activities on a day-to-day basis. The CQC will expect you to report and notify them about certain information such as the death of anyone using your service or when there are safeguarding concerns. Failure to perform your role could result in sanctions such as de-registration. Along with your fundamental activities, you are also expected to be a good communicator, team player, and committed to personal and professional development.
There is an expectation for you to demonstrate how you are a fit person to be a registered manager. There are also additional requirements to demonstrate you are a fit person to run your organisation, particularly when you are the sole company director for the care service (provider) and the proposed nominated individual.
As a CQC registered manager, you are expected to be someone of good character, have management and leadership skills which include motivating staff and delegating whenever appropriate. Staff will expect you to be a positive role model who values them and is committed to their professional development. Staff, families, people who use your services, and other professionals will expect you to be transparent and have integrity. You are expected to adhere to and work in line with both internal and external requirements such as policies and procedures.
Registered managers are also expected to have a strategic overview of their organisation which includes having short and long-term goals in place. They should market the services and carry out all business functions which include costing services and having an awareness of the impact of changes such as legislation, market, and labour forces. Do not separate the business side of your role as you might find yourself spending more than what is coming in, which is not sustainable.
There must be a continuity plan and risk assessments to reduce the impact of harm to people using the service and the organisation. As a registered manager, you have to be responsive and value the contribution of everyone linked with your service. You have the responsibility of acquainting yourself with any changes by the CQC and Skills for Care.
