Deputy Development Director
The salary for the post will be £49,000 - £55,000 per annum FTE.
Peterhouse is the oldest College in Cambridge (founded in 1284) and is also among the smallest (currently 291 undergraduates; 176 postgraduates; 44 Fellows). The College provides accommodation for almost all its Junior Members either on or near the main College site. The College is characterised by a greater degree of regular interaction between Senior and Junior Members than in some larger Colleges. It is a vibrant community, with many active clubs and societies, and a strong tradition of table fellowship. Peterhouse is situated in Trumpington Street in Central Cambridge.
The College's development activities are essential to its future. The Office fundraises for the College, organises a wide range of events, and produces publications for alumni.
The College seeks to appoint a Deputy Development Director with two main responsibilities: the day-to-day management and motivation of members of the fundraising team, and the cultivation of an individual portfolio of 50 UK-based prospects with giving capacity of up to £50k.
The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day running of the development office and optimise efficiency in all operational areas, including our database, financial systems and reporting, policies and procedures, event planning, and daily workflows. The post-holder will line-manage, support, and motivate all members of the development team and promote positive working relations through regular one-to-ones, mentoring, team meetings, and away days. A key activity is to manage an individual portfolio of 50 UK-based prospects with giving capacity of up to £50k (alumni, non-alumni, trusts, foundations) and develop a cultivation strategy for each constituent, based on regular face-to-face meetings and other KPIs to be agreed with the Development Director after six months in post. It will be expected that the post-holder will create and implement a multi-year strategy to grow annual fund income, including from the telephone campaign, the 1284 Circle (regular giving), and other new initiatives.
You will have a track record of successfully line-managing one or more individuals in a high-performing team, together with experience of effective fundraising and asking for gifts or equivalent experience in a results-oriented, project-based environment. You will possess the ability to influence and negotiate at senior levels externally and within an organisation and to describe and communicate compelling propositions. You will have highly developed stakeholder management skills and be able to develop, create, and sustain trusted and effective relationships with potential partners.
You will enjoy:
* Holiday entitlement is 25 days plus 8 bank and public holidays. A car parking space may be available, subject to capacity.
* The College offers an auto-enrolled pension scheme to eligible employees, after 3 months completed service. The scheme is the Cambridge Colleges Group Personal Pension Scheme (CCGPPS) with Aviva.
* Lunch is provided free of charge when on duty over lunchtime and when the College kitchens are open.
* The College offers a medical cashback scheme to staff.
The closing date for applications is 8.00am on Thursday 28th November 2024. Interviews will take place on Thursday 5th December 2024.
