An exciting opportunity has a risen to join a new Treating Tobacco Dependency Service offering specialist support to patients admitted to our inpatients sites across LSCFT. This service is key to delivering the ambitions of the NHS long term plan to provide treatment for tobacco dependency for all patients admitted to hospital, making a significant contribution to public health and reducing health inequalities.
Tobacco addiction is a chronic relapsing disease and the single biggest cause of preventable death, disability, illness and social inequality. One in two smokers die due to their smoking. People with mental health condition have higher rates of mortality compared to the general population and smoking is the single most contributing factor to their 10-20 year reduction in life expectancy.
This post primarily covers the following sites:
• The Orchard, Lancaster
• Westmorland General Hospital, Kendal
• The Cove, Morecambe
• Dane Garth, Barrow-in-Furness
In addition to the above, you may be required to attend other sites across Lancashire and South Cumbria.
This post will involve working directly with patients to assess their needs related to tobacco dependency and to work with them to identify treatment and specialist support to enable them make a successful quit attempt. Support may be face to face, remote consultation or via telephone.
We are looking for team members who are motivated, organised and dynamic who are passionate about supporting care and improving lives through engaging, motivating patients to stop smoking.
This is a role is diverse and will offer the opportunity to visits sites with the LSCFT to deliver smoking cessation, deliver and training and to support the implementation of the Trust Tobacco Smoke Free Policy. This post will require strong communication skills, teamwork and flexibility to ensure the service can provide a high quality service supporting patients across a variety of sites within Lancashire and South Cumbria.
There will be an expectation to travel to a variety of sites across Lancashire and South Cumbria - a car driver is essential.
Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of services including secondary mental health care across this area. Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.
The Trust also provides a range of physical health and well-being services in the community alongside a range of partners in the Lancashire, Cumbria and Sefton area.
