Job summary This post is for a fixed one year (10PA) post for a Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery with a view to a substantive position thereafter. An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join a dynamic team of consultants. The post holder must have a specialist interest in Paediatric surgery to fellowship level. The postholder will be expected to take part in the on call trauma rota. Along with our existing team of 18 consultants, the post-holder will provide a comprehensive trauma and orthopaedic service to our local population of approximately 500,000. There is an active postgraduate teaching and research programme within the department and with 18 junior and career grade medical staff, the post holder will be involved in the teaching programmes. Main duties of the job Clinical Duties: The holder of this post will be a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon or post CCT Trainee with a particular interest in Paediatric Orthopaedic surgery along with an active commitment to Trauma. It is expected that the post holder will maintain and develop the strong links already present with the Bristol Children's Hospital and will regularly attend MDT meetings in Bristol. The post will be based at the RUH and the holder will participate in audit and directorate meetings and undertake administrative duties as required by the Lead Clinician in Trauma & Orthopaedics. A commitment to maintain professional expertise by attendance at meetings and courses is expected, and completion of diaries for CME is essential. The appointee will be expected to arrange an annual appraisal. An interest in research and teaching is expected with participation in projects, courses, etc. to enhance the standing and role of the Department and Trust.
