Urram is looking for a skilled and enthusiastic team member who will support the Transport Manager to organise and deliver our transport services in West Lochaber, operating throughout the peninsulas. You will have a concern for the people of West Lochaber and their wellbeing, and an understanding of travel difficulties in remote and rural areas.
Job Description
We are looking for a friendly, outgoing individual, who is excellent at organising and planning services, anticipating potential issues, and problem solving accordingly. A understanding of electric cars, their charging and charge points would be advantageous.
The transport officer will work closely with the Transport Manager to deliver and promote a seamless transport service.
The Transport Manager will provide guidance and support but the Transport Officer will essentially provide the “hands on”, operational coordination.
This is an 12 month contract, which we fully expect to continue once funds are in place.
Urram’s area of operation is the community council areas of Acharacle, Ardgour, Morvern, Sunart, and West Ardnamurchan.
Importantly, the transport officer must work closely wherever possible with Urram colleagues, promoting and supporting services and opportunities as they arise. This may include supporting team members at community social events, gala days, shows etc.
Main Tasks
To ensure the seamless operation and continuous improvement of our transport service.
Be responsible for the transport phone on a rota basis; taking bookings of journeys, arranging volunteers to fulfil the journeys, and liaising with clients.
Moving cars to various locations as required, so they are available in the right location at the right time for pre-booked journeys.
Ensure cars are kept clean and respectable, topping up ad-blue, windscreen wash as required.
Liaise with the Transport Manager for ensuring servicing and regular checks happen in a timely manner.
Keeping track of cash donations/services fees and promoting the use of online payments or bank transfer where possible.
Maintain up to date records of service users and volunteer drivers
Manage, support and encourage volunteer drivers, including continually recruiting for new drivers to support the service.
To have a flexible approach to work, supporting an ‘out of hours’ service as incidents and cancellations often occur out with normal office hours, supporting Urram’s lone working policy and ensuring the safety of volunteers.
Process volunteers driver expenses claims as required.
Be the first port of contact for drivers and car club users when there is an issue with car charging or the charge points.
Working with Monta/Rolec to ensure charge points work efficiently and effectively.
Submit monthly electricity usage reports to relevant parties.
To develop, grow and support the car club as a valuable community resource that promotes accessibility and sustainability.
Support members to utilise the benefits of the car club
Grow the membership, raising the profile of the car club and expanding to other areas
Ensure all appropriate invoicing is completed in a timely manner and ensuring prompt payment
Additional tasks
Ensure appropriate reporting, comprehensive recording and effective evidence collection for social impact and funding reporting purposes.
Meet regularly with the wider team to ensure good communication and smooth running of services.
Promote all of Urram’s services to interested individuals.
Host occasional community lunches and tea and chat groups on a rota basis.
Any other tasks that are required for the smooth running of Urram and, it’s growth and development.
Maintain volunteer and service user confidentiality in accordance with appropriate policies.
