Our highly skilled people hold competencies to operate and maintain a variety of on track machines such as tampers and ballast regulators, through to Kirow cranes and RRV’s with specialist attachments.
We work with clients across main line railways, depots, overground mass transit networks and tramways, along with private sidings and heritage railways, delivering a variety of projects, including maintenance, overhead line installations, bridge installations and track renewals.
We have a fleet of on-track machines working on a long term contract with Network Rail to deliver mechanised track maintenance and infrastructure enhancements to help transform and maintain the UK rail network. Today we are also part of the East Coast Digital Programme (ECDP), delivering the European Train Control System (ETCS) on the East Coast South Mainline.
We have a great opportunity for a Route Knowledge Manager to be part of a high-performing On-Track Machine Business. The position is based in Frodingham with travel throughout the UK.
Key Responsibilities
* Responsible for the development and implementation of standards for train driver route knowledge acquisition and retention within the OTM Business, in line with business requirements, industry standard and codes of practice.
* Responsible for the development and implementation of route learning methods and materials, including diverse methods, i.e. Video route learning library, route maps, use of simulation etc.
* Responsible for the development, implementation and delivery of plans for the acquisition and maintenance of train driver route knowledge, ensuring these are maintained up to date for management team review and communicated/presented through regular OTM Management team meetings.
* Responsible for the management of route retention and reviews, including provision for professional discussion, management of route knowledge database, software packages and reporting functions in-line with business requirements.
* Responsible for the development, issue and compliance of individual T3 route information packs as defined within our procedures for management of route knowledge & route retention.
* Provide both a management and hands on approach to route learning.
* Develop processes with the commercial team to enable the provision of data and information for the demonstration of the associated cost savings and income benefits in respect of:
o reduced external route conductor provision, and
o increased opportunities from the external provision of route conductors to third parties.
About You
Essential:
* Must hold a European Train Driving Licence with a minimum of 3 years post qualification experience.
* Be able to demonstrate and provide evidence in a similar role within the rail industry.
* Working knowledge of relevant European and UK train driving related standards, rules and codes of practice.
* Ability to work in a constantly changing environment and to tight deadlines.
* Willing to work unsociable hours, nights, weekends and to lodge away from home.
* Hold a full UK driving licence.
Desirable:
* Previous experience in a Trainer/Assessor role and knowledge of ETCS would be a distinct advantage.
