We are partnering with a client who is looking to hire a Senior Medical Director, External Innovation and New Products Strategy for two key therapeutic areas: Rare Disease and Oncology. This is an exciting opportunity for professionals with expertise in either field who are passionate about driving innovation and strategic growth in these areas.
Role Overview:
The Senior Medical Director will play a pivotal role in evaluating external innovation and business development opportunities within the Rare Disease or Oncology portfolio. The role will involve contributing to the development of the therapeutic area (TA) External Innovation strategy, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and supporting the global launch strategy. The successful candidate will have a strong scientific background, with a focus on the medical evaluation of new and novel assets, and will help shape the future of innovation within either Rare Disease or Oncology.
Key Responsibilities:
External Innovation and Business Development:
* Lead the medical evaluation of external innovation opportunities and contribute to the design of the External Innovation strategy for the assigned TA.
* Collaborate with commercial and clinical development teams to evaluate the unmet medical need and value proposition for new assets.
* Identify key opportunities for expanding the company's footprint within the respective therapeutic area through proactive engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
* Work with cross-functional teams to create a ‘Think Tank’ to advise on the search strategy for areas of unmet need.
Operating Model:
* Design and maintain the operating model for medical evaluations to ensure timely support for external innovation efforts.
* Identify opportunities for comprehensive and expedited medical evaluation of new assets, utilizing external resources as appropriate.
Franchise Medical/Product Strategy:
* Serve as the voice of Medical Affairs for the Rare Disease or Oncology portfolio, providing medical guidance and contributing actively to the global launch strategy.
* Support the implementation of integrated global medical affairs plans across the portfolio.
Relationship & Network Building:
* Cultivate and strengthen relationships with scientific societies, collaborative groups, and other external stakeholders to enhance the visibility of the franchise.
Qualifications:
* MD preferred; PhD considered; specialist qualification in Oncology/Rare Disease is desirable for the specific role.
* High-level strategic thinking, social agility, and a commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
* Experience in assessing new and novel assets is a distinct advantage.
* A strong network within the scientific or medical community, particularly in Rare Disease or Oncology.
