We are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated, self-motivated Registered Nurse to join our Adult Cystic Fibrosis Team within The Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Are you looking for an exciting challenge where you can lead and work within a dynamic team?
Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust hosts the Regional Adult Cystic Fibrosis Unit. The CF Unit is internationally recognised as a centre of excellence and provides full time care for over 400 adults with CF. There is a state of the art inpatients ward at St James's Hospital, dedicated day unit facilities at Seacroft Hospital and a well-established, high-quality home care service.
The unit continues to be at the forefront of clinical research. Our portfolio includes clinical trials and grant funded research focusing on medical informatics (first paperless service in the UK), drug allergy, adherence, inflammation and infection.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will manage and lead diabetes care in people with CF, providing high quality, evidence-based, individualised care and treatment in community, outpatient and inpatient settings. A key component of the role will be working alongside the multi-disciplinary team to develop and establish this new role.
The successful applicant will act as a resource offering specialist advice, support and education to patients, carers and other health care professionals. You will be responsible for contributing to and leading the ongoing development of diabetes clinical practice.

Responsibilities for patient and client care
* Assesses, develops and implements specialist nursing care programmes and evaluates care and treatments using advanced clinical knowledge and clinical skills.
* Plans specialist nursing service provision, organising and managing own workload.
* Provides specialised advice contributing to the diagnosis and care of patients.

* Investigates and responds to accidents, complaints, untoward incidents and other significant events.
* Maintains record of workload and performance monitoring information for own practice and reviews this on a regular basis with Consultant Dietitian and Lead Nurse.
* Exercises a personal duty of care in relation to equipment, resource and stock control, ordering and utilising equipment and supplies appropriately.
* Works with Lead Nurse to lead the development of nursing practice, reflecting the CMT and Nursing Directorate business plans.
* Sets, monitors and seeks to continuously improve standards and the quality of patient care, including those standards defined in the National Benchmarks for Essential Care.
* Promotes evidence-based practice, wherever possible.
* Proposes, develops and implements policy, protocols and practice guidelines specific to the clinical specialty.
* Contributes to the development of specialist protocols for the specialist area.
* Proposes policy and service change and leads the development of the same within and beyond own specialist area.

* Contributes to the research agenda. Participates in clinical trials as appropriate.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
* Registered Nurse (Level 1)
* Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
* Post registration qualification in diabetes
* Evidence of continued professional development
* Willing to undergo training as necessary

* Master Level Degree Education
* Extended/Supplementary prescribing
Experience
Essential
* Experience at Sister/Charge Nurse level or equivalent within specialty
* Highly developed specialist knowledge, underpinned by theory and experience
* Clinical audit, research and standard setting
* Experience in managing people with diabetes
* Ability to deliver formal/informal teaching
