Package: £ 40, 000 - £54,960 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)
Let us introduce the role
AWE is currently recruiting for a Non-Ionising Radiation Protection Specialist for the Defence Radiation Protection Services.
This role is ideally suited to someone with a physics background with experience of electromagnetic field (including radio frequency) safety and/or laser and optical radiation safety.
Working within Defence Radiation Protections Services, the successful candidate will be required to undertake frequent visits to customer facilities to perform safety assurance visits, measurements, attend meetings and deliver training.
In addition, you will support the development of non-ionising radiation protection policy and guidance at MOD-wide and service level, provide non-ionising radiation protection advice for complex exposure situations, design training and work with stakeholders across MOD to enhance non-ionising radiation safety for our armed forces.
Who are we looking for?
We do need you to have the following:
1. a degree in Physics or a closely related subject which includes electromagnetic theory and optics / laser physics. Postgraduate degrees such as MSc, MEng, and PhD would also be welcome.
2. Recent experience of working in an EMF and/or laser safety role.
3. Full UK driving licence.
Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we’d like you to have experience in some of the following:
1. Laser safety - as a laser safety officer or laser protection adviser.
2. EMF safety – as an EMF safety officer or equivalent.
3. Delivering training courses / good presentation skills.
4. Excellent IT skills.
5. Report writing.
You’ll need to have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority changing environment and be able to manage your own workload. You will also have initiative, enthusiasm, a flexible approach, and ability to work to tight deadlines.

Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE Aldermaston.
