Job Description
To work closely with and support the Creative Producer Visual Arts in delivering the artistic aims of the organisation by planning and supervising all technical aspects of visual arts programme production and presentation for HOME.
Key Responsibilities
Creative Programme
1. Leading the technical and production aspects of the galleries' programme and working closely with the Creative Producer Visual Arts and members of the Artist Development and Creative Engagement teams to ensure the safe and smooth delivery of exhibitions.
2. Creation of gallery layout plans.
3. Arranging appropriate transport, storage, condition checking of artworks and commissioning of signage and exhibition equipment.
4. Ensuring projects are delivered in line with agreed budgets.
5. Procurement of equipment and services in connection with exhibition changeovers.
6. Maintain an asset register of, and ensure the maintenance of, gallery technical equipment and by other user groups onsite and offsite.
7. Liaising with the Theatre/Film Technical team on scheduling.
8. Briefing all relevant HOME staff on changeover plans.
People Management
1. Managing the team of freelance technicians ensuring training is completed and providing ongoing support.
2. Ensuring all technicians are able to undertake the work they are assigned and that all relevant Health & Safety legislation requirements are followed.
3. Manage freelance contracts and ensure the correct finance and HR processes are adhered to.
Health and Safety
1. Responsibility for the Health and Safety of exhibitions. Ensuring standards of compliance are maintained throughout and accurate records are kept.
2. Ensuring all required documentation is in place including appropriate risk assessments.
Job Requirements
The Senior Gallery Technician will report to the Creative Producer Visual Arts and work closely with the Head of Technical Theatre and Film, the Technical Manager and the Technicians in delivering the artistic aims of the organisation through the programme of visual arts across the building.
HOME has an integrated artistic programme of equally important theatre, contemporary visual art, and film. This sometimes manifests itself in cross art form projects working through part or all the organisation. You will be comfortable planning and managing the complex gallery installations. You will feel as at home being part of an interdisciplinary team as much as you are a technical/gallery specialist. Your technical and project management knowledge and skills will enable you to make a positive contribution to the planning of our programme.
Working with the Creative Producer Visual Arts you will be key to ensuring high quality, cost effective and safe delivery of our visual arts.
Job Responsibilities
The Team
You will be a key member of the Visual Art team reporting to the Creative Producer Visual Arts and working closely with Artist Development Producer: Visual Art and Creative Development Practitioner: Visual Art. You will work closely with the Head of Technical Theatre and Film, and the Technical Manager to resource and develop installations. You will work closely with artists collaborating on the exhibitions programme across the building.
