We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced, registered nurse with a passion for caring for oncology patients to join our dedicated team in the brand-new Christie at Macclesfield.

We are a caring, well-led unit with a good staff to patient ratio. We are a day case unit offering treatments to all specialties.
The Role and Team
On appointment you would receive a comprehensive supernumerary training package, in which you have exposure to different anti-cancer treatments in different disease group fields and complete the UKONs SACT passport.
You will gain experience in treating a variety of patients with potentially curative diseases, alongside palliative and clinical trial treatments. During your supernumerary period, you will complete most of your training at main Christie hospital Oak Road Treatment Centre.

We are open Monday-Friday 8am-6pm. We also open on Bank Holidays.
To safely administer SACT (Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy) to Christie patients attending the unit.
To provide care for chemotherapy patients and their carers within a recognised framework in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct, Christie NHS Trust policies and Health & Safety legislation.
The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country.
We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. We are also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years.
We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide a supportive role within the SACT unit at the Christie at Macclesifled for nursing, medical and clerical Staff.
2. Undertake the nursing care of patients, ensuring privacy & dignity is maintained whilst being aware of physical and psychological needs
3. To give a clear and accurate update at change of duties and ensure accurate documentation of nursing interventions
4. To participate in the rehabilitation of patients and give any necessary instructions, including discharge information
5. Participate in nursing procedures appropriate to the department
6. Support and assist in the induction/training of junior staff/Health Care Assistant’s acting as mentor to designated staff
7. To welcome patients to the unit and its routine
8. Be able to act as ward co-ordinator and ensure the safe and timely management of patients
9. To liaise with medical and non medical personnel and community organisations
10. Rotate to ground floor clinic management where required so support in outpatients.
11. To highlight areas of improvement/development within the department and undertake relevant projects
12. To act as support for other nurses in relation to SACT and oncology care
13. Safely deliver SACT to Christie patients attending the unit
14. Assist in the provision of meals / refreshments for patients whilst meeting their nutritional needs
15. Assist in the general housekeeping duties of the unit.
16. Help to maintain a safe environment and report faults/risks etc to the nurse in charge
17. Liaise with nurse responsible for stores/stationery and ordering and assist in the maintenance of stock levels
18. Handles patients personal possessions, ensure cash and valuables kept securely
19. Correct care and custody of controlled drugs and aid the safe storage of medicines and the return of any unused chemotherapy to pharmacy
20. Assist medical staff with procedures
21. Demonstrates the agreed set of values and accountable for own attitude and behaviour
EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
1. The staff nurse is responsible for their own personal development and maintaining a personal development plan
2. To complete the Ward introductory pack and preceptor pack
3. Complete Clinical Skills Training and the UKON’s SACT passport
4. Annually attend all mandatory study days including Resuscitation, AIMs, moving & handling and fire safety
5. To complete level 3 SACT administration programme to administer cytotoxic drugs and educate patients regarding their treatment
6. To be working towards band 6 equivalent competency pack

1. Demonstrate a pleasant and approachable manner and help create and promote a good working relationship
2. Show professional and courteous manner when answering the telephone and other enquires
3. Maintain confidentiality with regard to patient information both at work and outside of working hours
4. To be aware of and adhere to all policies including; sickness and absence, confidentiality, uniform and responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act
5. Report and record all accidents and complaints according to the agreed policy
6. To be aware of limitations and utilise the preceptor system for any issues that arise
7. To show respect for members of the team and endorse the SACT Day Services philosophy of giving mutual support
