Are you an Occupational Therapist with a passion for stroke / neurology and looking to develop your skills in a senior role? Due to the expansion in our Stroke service, we have opportunities available for full or part-time hours, including a substantive or secondment contract within the Stroke Therapy team.
Our Stroke Service comprises of a 38 bedded (including hyper-acute beds) Acute Stroke Unit at the Royal Derby Hospital with a further extension of 10 extra beds within the acute setting. There is also a 21 bedded Stroke Rehabilitation Unit at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital. Our valued OT service is embedded across the inpatient pathway.
We are a forward-thinking service, utilising an evidence-based approach to ensure the provision of a quality-based service and therefore optimising outcomes for our stroke patients.
We are looking for a senior Occupational Therapist who enjoys being part of an MDT, is resourceful and enthusiastic and can demonstrate the impact and value that Occupational Therapy can bring to the stroke pathway.
Our MDT have specialist knowledge/skills which they will be able to share in supervision and individual sessions. You will have regular in-service training with our Clinical Specialist OT and will be encouraged to use your study days and seek external training, such as NCORE.
Main duties of the job
* To work in support of senior Occupational Therapists to provide a high standard OT service for stroke patients.
* To be responsible for supervising and teaching junior staff, assistants and students working within the same specialty.
* To provide advanced occupational therapy assessment and treatment to stroke patients and provide specialist advice and support to other professionals regarding the management of stroke patients throughout the Trust.
You will be required to demonstrate that you are:
* Organised and efficient
* Have demonstrable experience in stroke care.
* Relevant working knowledge of the National Stroke Guidelines/ NICE standards
* Have experience of supervising and teaching others.
* An enthusiastic and motivated team member
* An excellent communicator
* Flexible and adaptable to meet service requirements
* Genuinely interested in supporting the needs of those with complex and physical and cognitive impairment
* Able to work on your own as well as part of a team
* Flexible with regard to 7 day working
