Position: Teaching Assistant for SEND School
Location: St. Helens
Working Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
Contract Type: Long-term
We are seeking a compassionate and committed Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team at a large Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) school in the St. Helens area. The school caters to children aged 5-16 with a wide range of SEND needs, including Autism, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, Down's Syndrome, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and more. This is a full-time, long-term role, and consistency is vital to ensure the well-being and educational progression of the children in your care.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with a range of SEND needs, tailoring your approach to meet individual learning styles and abilities.
2. Assist the class teacher in delivering lessons and activities that engage pupils and promote personal, social, and academic development.
3. Support pupils with personal care where necessary, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and safety at all times.
4. Foster a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment that helps pupils build their confidence, communication, and social skills.
5. Help monitor and assess pupil progress, offering valuable feedback to both the teacher and parents/carers.
6. Work closely with the wider school staff, including therapists and specialists, to provide holistic support for each child’s unique needs.
7. Ensure consistency and routine for the pupils, which is crucial for their emotional security and learning development.
Requirements:
1. Experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly those with Autism, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, Down's Syndrome, or PMLD, is highly desirable.
2. A patient, caring, and empathetic approach with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
3. Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively alongside teaching staff, specialists, and other support staff.
4. Adaptability and resilience, with a commitment to maintaining a consistent routine for the children.
5. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable pupils.
6. Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 in Teaching Assistant or Supporting Children with SEND) are desirable but not essential.
