Role Overview
We are seeking a Mobile Forklift Engineer/Mechanical Handling Field Service Engineer to join our client’s team of southern-based engineers, covering postcodes across the Essex. This full-time role will involve maintaining, repairing, servicing, and modifying a range of material handling equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Service, maintain, and overhaul material handling products
* Perform fault-finding and repairs on gas, diesel, and electric-powered forklift trucks
* Carry out routine maintenance tasks (checking brakes, lifting assembly, steering, oil/filter changes)
* Preventative maintenance (lubricating steering and lifting equipment)
* Battery maintenance (voltage and fluid checks using meters and hydrometers)
* Respond to breakdowns and minimize customer downtime
* Maintain excellent customer relationships
* Complete documentation to company standards and liaise with the parts team
* Work on mobile machinery (brakes, steering, wheels, lift chains, etc.)
* Troubleshoot and resolve issues with electrical drive systems, diesel/LPG engines, hydraulics, and common drive-trains
Qualifications & Skills Required:
* Full UK driving license
* Previous experience working on manual handling equipment/forklifts
* Strong diagnostic computer skills
* Experience in heavy goods, plant machinery, automotive, or similar industries (e.g., agricultural, REME, HGV, PSV, construction)
