Job overview
This is a great opportunity to join our friendly pharmacy team at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton. The department is progressive, supportive and provides ample opportunities for growth and development.
As a key member of the multidisciplinary Frail Elderly Assessment Team (FEAT), you will be working alongside other clinicians whilst providing an enhanced clinical pharmacy service and utilising independent prescribing skills to assist the team to ensure high quality, safe and timely management of patients.

Main duties of the job
* Ensuring the quality, accuracy and safety of prescribing in a busy clinical area with a high patient turnover.
* Attend ward rounds and support the MDT with on-the-spot clinical advice and implementation of prescribing decisions, promoting use of Trust and national clinical guidelines and optimising patient medication where possible.
* Help support quality, safety and timeliness of prescribing at discharge and to facilitate effective communication of medication changes to GPs and primary care teams.
* Provide pharmacy cover to the admissions areas as necessary.
* Assist the Divisional Lead Pharmacist to recruit, develop and motivate staff to maximise performance and delivery of service objectives.
* Provide line management for Pharmacist staff as required.
The successful candidate will be motivated and able to cope with the pace and demands that a busy acute medicine service presents. We see pharmacist independent prescriber status as a critical part of this role but will accept applications from candidates currently working towards this or willing to undergo training to achieve this qualification.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Excellent communication skills, verbal and written to communicate with a broad spectrum of people.

Knowledge, training and experience
* Vocational Master’s Degree in Pharmacy plus additional demonstrable pre-registration training.
* PG Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent.
* Significant post-registration hospital practice experience including specialist clinical pharmacy practice in a relevant area.
* Wide-ranging clinical pharmacy experience and expert knowledge.
* Non-medical prescribing qualification within specialist area of practice relevant to acute admissions.
* Statutory regulatory membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Membership of other organisations (e.g. RPSGB, Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists, etc).
* Higher degree e.g. Masters, DPharm or management.
