Diversity matters
We are building a brand that represents the people of the world. It's what you do that counts, and we are always looking to expand perspectives and voices to shape our future.
We see you, we celebrate you, we want you!
Who we are
You might know us as the inventors of the bath bomb, but there's more to this great-smelling, partly employee-owned, family-run company than pioneering cosmetics. We believe our business should put more back into the world than it takes and demonstrate that capitalism can be a force for good.
The Living Wage Foundation's statement 'a hard day's work deserves a fair day's pay' is one that we are proud to commit to in the UK. As an accredited Living Wage employer, we put our people first and fight cruel practices like animal testing, promote regeneration, and show that it is what's inside that counts - whether that's an ingredient in a product, or the minerals in a smartphone.
Please note: We may close this vacancy early if we receive an overwhelming response or our business requirements change.
The Role
Behind a product for every need, there's compliance for every market! We're looking for an ambassador for our brand who will help the business navigate the growing cosmetic regulatory landscape with clarity, confidence and calm. You'll report on upcoming legislations that may affect our operations, engage with authorities and markets on global issues on behalf of the brand, and offer advice and solutions internally to stakeholders. We're looking for a highly skilled individual who shares our vision and our values and is passionate about sharing them with the world.
Key Responsibilities
* Horizon scanning. An ear to the ground, monitoring upcoming changes in legislation that may affect our operations, from cosmetic regulations to ingredient re-classifications. Knows how new regulatory processes happen in the UK and EU (and ready to research these globally elsewhere as required). Excited to represent the brand's interests and knows how and when to engage on our behalf.
* Supports the launch of the business into new markets as we open exciting new ventures globally. This can include researching or seeking guidance on compliance with local regulations, how to register and import products and meeting other legal obligations.
* Prepares and submits dossiers of information based on research and expertise within the business to give us a voice in regulatory decisions, for example, the proposed reclassifications of ingredients.
* Gathering and analysing information from internal and external sources, be it our Buying or Toxicology Teams or peer-reviewed literature, and turning this into dossiers for external or internal use.
* Supports the Product Compliance Team and stakeholders with more complex enquiries that come from markets and stakeholders. Provides more in-depth analysis of regulatory requirements and risk analyses when needed.
* Sits within the Product Compliance Team based in the UK, but works collaboratively with other teams and roles including ESG Coordinator and Chemical Compliance Coordinator.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
* A legal background would be advantageous. Candidates must be confident in interpretation of legal language to support compliance teams with queries and provide risk analyses, as well as presenting toxicology data from our internal experts.
* Offers guidance and experience to the Product Content Team, our wider compliance network and markets.
* Interested in what the brand is trying to achieve. Not afraid to push back and engage authorities in discussion, be it a proposed reclassification of geraniol or a reliance on inaccurate animal data to inform lawmaking.
* Understanding of how and where to represent business interests through the submission of data to regulatory authorities in different markets, especially in the UK and EU. Confident researching and supporting how to do this in North America, at a federal and state level.
* Strong communication skills. Able to break down complex regulations and risk analyses into concise, easy-to-understand language to inform and empower stakeholders in their decision-making.
