Functional Skills Coach

* Salary Band: £26-32k per annum

Purpose of role:
The role of the Functional Skills Tutor is to teach, coach, and support the development and progression of our learners on apprenticeship programmes with their Functional Skills aims. To ensure the delivery of Functional Skills throughout the learner journey is delivered through a quality process. To teach, coach, and support learners within work-based settings delivering effective and engaging training via a blended learning approach. Conduct regular teaching and learning visits to ensure continuous development, progression, and achievement of learners allocated on the caseload.
Key Responsibilities:
* Responsibility for engaging with a caseload of apprenticeship learners, identified by the Operations Manager and Team Leader for Functional Skills, as requiring specialised and focussed support in English and maths, and acting as a trouble-shooter to ensure timely completion of Functional Skills qualifications in line with the curriculum approach.
* Use appropriate Initial Interviews to assist learners in identifying their existing skills, work experience, interests, and job goals
* Using the Diagnostic Assessment material, assess levels of competency within maths and English
* To deliver progressive teaching, learning, and assessment visits with every learner on your caseload, every month, using coaching techniques combined with experiential learning to drive sustained changes in their Maths and English knowledge and skills.
* Produce and deliver appropriate individual and group exercises in order to achieve the Individual Training Plan
* Ensure that Functional Skills are delivered in line with a detailed curriculum approach for each qualification and support, motivate, and encourage your learners to achieve their Functional Skills at the relevant level.
* To manage your own diary to ensure you achieve KPIs.
* To support learners who find Maths and English the most challenging across our provision.
* Abide by Ofsted, QCF, and company regulations at all times, ensuring that portfolios and learner files satisfy awarding body criteria
* Actively participate in, and promote, the safeguarding of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
* Work towards further professional qualifications to enhance skills and knowledge.
Essential Criteria:
* Relevant assessing, and teaching qualifications
* Ability to communicate with learners, managers, staff, and stakeholders in an effective way
* Experience of working with e-portfolio systems/learner management systems
* Strong IT skills and confidence in using a range of IT tools
* Excellent time management and identification of priorities
* Be prepared to be flexible and support the team as required
