We are a medical charity transforming the care landscape for people with rare diseases. As Trustee you will provide financial stewardship for the PCD Research. This charity aims to improve outcomes for people with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), an inherited rare genetic condition caused by dysfunction of motile cilia, small hair-like structures that line the respiratory tract, brain ventricles and reproductive tracts. Loss of coordinated movement by these motile cilia leads to significant lung disease, recurrent otitis media, conductive hearing loss, rhinosinusitis, hydrocephalus and laterality defects that include congenital heart disease. Children with PCD have worse lung function than those with CF (pre-Trikafta). There are no approved therapies for PCD.
The Board of Trustees meets remotely at a minimum 4 times a year. Meetings last approximately 2 hours. Overall time requirement for the role is about 8 hours per month, spread throughout the month at your own convenience. This role is voluntary.
