Our client is seeking a Shift Production Manager to join their Rolling Stock Maintenance Delivery Team. This role is responsible for delivering train service agreements, ensuring timely maintenance of rolling stock through effective leadership of supervisory and technical teams. The position oversees planning, preparation, and operating performance of maintenance schedules, with responsibility for a budget of up to £1M.
To be considered for this Shift Production Manager role, you don't need rolling stock maintenance experience. You do need prior experience in engineering management and managing large technical teams. You will need to demonstrate you have delivered a product or service and worked in a safety-critical maintenance environment with non-negotiable timeline deliverables.
This Shift Production Manager role covers days, nights, weekdays, and weekends.
Key Responsibilities
Production Management & Fleet Planning
1. Plan and manage all resources including people, plant, material, tools, and third-party services.
2. Develop and execute production plans to meet business targets.
3. Minimize deferred work and ensure maintenance activities follow relevant instructions.
4. Optimize shift coverage to minimize downtime and customer delays.
5. Incorporate extraordinary circumstances and complex work into planning.
Customer & Team Management
1. Build and maintain strong customer relationships through consistent delivery and prompt issue resolution.
2. Lead and develop high-performing teams using modern people management practices.
3. Champion employee development and career growth initiatives.
4. Ensure employee safety and wellbeing remain paramount.
5. Implement and maintain robust health and safety protocols.
6. Drive continuous improvement initiatives and quality standards.
Financial & Operational Management
1. Manage operations in line with agreed KPIs.
2. Meet short-range budget objectives.
3. Monitor progress and measure success against established criteria.
4. Ensure compliance with internal control procedures.
5. Implement safe systems and controls within area of responsibility.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
1. Management or supervisory experience of large teams in a technical position.
2. Engineering qualification and experience.
3. Strong knowledge of IT asset management systems and Microsoft products (Excel & Power BI).
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
5. Proven organizational and planning capabilities.
6. Experience in Safety Critical Environment.
Preferred
1. Technical knowledge of Rolling Stock maintenance procedures/practices.
2. Experience with continuous improvement methodologies.
3. Understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation/procedures.
4. Project management knowledge.
5. Commercial and contract management experience.
