We’re currently on the lookout for a Mechanical Technician to join our Aberdeen workshop team, carrying out inspection and service of drilling equipment including iron roughnecks, top drives, mud pumps, and drawworks.
The role will suit a reliable candidate with a strong mechanical aptitude and heavy mechanical equipment background.
This position is primarily workshop based with option for the candidate to attend on-site jobs from time to time if they wish.
Responsibilities
1. Receive and unload equipment safely
2. Read and interpret engineering drawings and manuals
3. Use cloud based work pack software to complete maintenance work orders
4. Use heavy workshop tools to strip down equipment
5. Carry out visual inspection and dimensional inspection
6. Use micrometres, vernier gauges and dial indicators
7. Complete detailed equipment inspections and reports
8. Make recommendations for reuse, repair and replacement of parts
9. Carry out servicing and repairs per recommendations
10. Rebuild and test equipment per work packs
11. Pack and load equipment safely
12. Fulfil project quality plan and risk assessment requirements
13. Fulfil and comply with workshop safety guidelines
14. Maintain good facility housekeeping including work bay and tooling
Qualifications
Time served mechanical technician, fitter or similar – apprenticeship or HNC.
Experience
Experience working as a mechanical technician in an oil & gas, heavy plant, factory machinery, marine, aerospace or military environment is essential. Experience working as a mechanical technician in repair of drilling equipment such as iron roughnecks, top drives, mud pumps, and drawworks is advantageous but not essential.
Technical Requirements
1. Ability to use heavy workshop tooling effectively

3. Ability to use measuring tools such as micrometres, vernier gauges and dial indicators
4. IT literate and able to complete detailed inspection reports using latest software
