Job Title: Principal Engineer - MAE - HV Substation Plant

Murphy is recruiting for a Principal Engineer - MAE - HV Substation Plant to work with Murphy Applied Engineering on HV Substation plant designs. You can be based out of our regional offices in London, Cannock, or Warrington.
Our engineering teams encompass a multi-disciplinary range of skills, adding value across all sectors, and pushing the boundaries of digital construction, engineering innovation, and design to deliver intelligent, sustainable, and economical solutions.
Under Murphy Applied Engineering, our in-house teams include civil, structural, mechanical, geotechnical, and process engineers. They design both permanent and temporary works for projects across all locations and serve as trusted advisors for Murphy colleagues and external clients.
A day in the life of a Principal Engineer - HV Substation Plant
1. Interpret client design specifications and lead the team to develop conceptual designs.
2. Lead the creation of specifications and Bills of Quantities for equipment to facilitate Requests for Quotations.
3. Assess supplier quotations and engage suppliers to align them technically with specifications.
4. Identify and evaluate chargeable work, maintaining records of time spent.
5. Ensure detailed design work complies with procedures and maintains professionalism.
6. Produce detailed designs, calculations, drawings, diagrams, and sketches according to standards and codes.
7. Conduct design checks for team members and external designers.
8. Provide guidance on design and operational issues.
9. Consider design risks and prepare risk assessments for residual risks.
10. Manage and supervise design team members and subcontractors to ensure quality and timely delivery.
11. Mentor and support the development of junior engineers.
12. Interface with project teams to facilitate detailed design drawings for construction.
13. Undertake site visits and surveys.
14. Assist in the development of graduate and junior engineers.
15. Help all business units and clients understand the scope of HV plant designs from tender to completion.
Additional responsibilities include:
* Providing technical guidance throughout construction, answering technical questions.
* Developing conceptual designs aligned with legislation.
* Supporting bid teams with technical input for tenders, focusing on innovative and cost-effective solutions.
* Promoting health, safety, and environmental best practices in collaboration with SHESQ.
* Managing interfaces with internal and external design teams.
* Monitoring change controls and maintaining documentation via Doc Control.
* Designing and delivering high-voltage transmission and distribution substation projects.
* Possessing National Grid TP141 High Voltage Plant (CDAE) authorization.
