I’m an 18-year-old male who sustained a brain injury as a baby, I’m a wheelchair user and have complex behavioural, cognitive, and physical needs. I’m described by the people who know me best as ‘a real character’, funny, cheeky and determined. I’m a sociable, young man with a great sense of humour, but can get very anxious when trying new things or going to new places, it can take me a little while to get used to new people. When I get anxious, I don’t always react in the right way, but when I’m put at ease, I can be very good company.
I need help with personal care and transfers, but my physio and current Support Workers are helping me to get stronger and to learn new skills. I would like support to help me transition to my new adult placement, three days a week, after you collect me and take me home, I’d like help with food preparation.
I would also like support for two days a week to access community facilities or to experience social and leisure activities, engage in therapy, and to further develop my life skills. I like to be active and busy, and love playing games, especially bingo, singing Karaoke and anything food related. I enjoy being outdoors and would like to try bowling, eating out and other similar things. Although I need a lot of support, I love being as independent as possible and I enjoy helping with domestic and household tasks.
I am looking for an enthusiastic, fun, patient, and reliable support team to help me to manage my personal care and to engage as independently as possible, in the activities I love. You will need to be calm and patient under pressure and be able to apply a consistent approach and work well as a team.
To join me as a Support Worker/Therapy Assistant you will: -
* Be able to drive and have use of a car.
* Be willing to drive my van.
* Have experience of working with young adults.
* Enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
(This role would be an excellent opportunity for a therapy student or psychology graduate).
A full induction and training will be provided. This role is subject to an Enhanced level DBS check
