Global Real Estate (GRE) is BCG’s in-house Corporate Real Estate function which supports the organisation and our office network with all strategic and tactical real estate aspects around BCG’s occupied office portfolio of 5M square feet. Our team’s capabilities integrate Workplace Experience, Smart Office Innovation, Portfolio Strategy, Business Intelligence and Analysis, and Project Delivery which encompasses the Leasing through the Capital Project build outs. Our global team of currently 30 staff works as a highly collaborative, strategic, and solution-oriented team. The majority of our team is based out of our regional hubs in Boston, London, Munich and New Delhi. We are seeking a highly talented Global Real Estate ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Director to join our team, reporting directly into BCG’s Head of Global Real Estate. As the Global Real Estate ESG Director, you will be responsible for developing and implementing ESG strategies across our real estate portfolio. Your primary objective will be to align our real estate strategy, project delivery and operations with ESG principles and ensure compliance with BCG’s net zero ambition, relevant regulations and industry best practices. Your role will include: Define with BCG leadership and other stakeholders our ESG business and real estate priorities, desired business outputs and potential associated funding requirements Build and manage regular ESG real estate advisory board with BCG senior stakeholders for evolving business priorities, governance and decision making Collate and validate current ESG GRE best practices and standards Evolve our GRE ambition and framework of a holistic ESG strategy, also in close collaboration with our inhouse Sustainability team and other BCG experts Assess the environmental performance of our real estate portfolio, including energy efficiency, water management, waste reduction and renewable energy initiatives Work with office green teams to build a view on current status quo and best practices as it relates to green office operations, and the roll-out of future initiatives Identify and implement social impact initiatives that promote inclusivity, diversity, and community engagement within our real estate projects and day to day office experiences Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to monitor and measure the effectiveness of GRE ESG initiatives, preparing regular reports for stakeholders and leadership Prioritise within all areas of our ESG framework and develop and implement an execution plan for areas with highest urgency, risks and impact Conduct ESG risk assessments and due diligence (toolbox) on potential real estate acquisitions, evaluating environmental and social factors to inform real estate decisions Engage with external stakeholders, including investors, industry associations, and sustainability organisations, to share best practices Drive employee education and awareness programs related to ESG principles in our workplaces, fostering a culture of sustainability and responsibility throughout the organisation Collaborate with the BCG Sustainability team, marketing and communications teams to effectively communicate our ESG efforts to internal and external stakeholders, enhancing our reputation as a sustainability leader A successful candidate will be able to consult offices, structure new demand and strategic ESG initiatives, communicate approach, and navigate cultural nuances, as well as integrate seamlessly with a global BCG team. Specifically, you: Have a consultative and user centric approach to problem solving Are energized by evolving the ESG pillar within GRE Collaborate and communicate effectively across multiple functions and stakeholder groups Have strong strategic thinking and implementation skills, incl. measuring success Possess an innate ability to build relationships internally and externally Are seen as a trusted advisor and gain a “seat at the table” with leaders A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, sustainability, business, or (real estate) consulting. A master's degree and/or professional certifications are preferred. Proven experience (8 years) in a role within the real estate industry. Understanding of ESG principles, frameworks, and best practices, with a specific focus on the real estate sector. In depth familiarity with relevant ESG rating systems and certifications (e.g., GRESB, LEED, BREEAM) is highly desirable. Solid knowledge of real estate operations and delivery. Understanding of the financial implications of ESG initiatives and their integration into real estate decision-making processes. Strong analytical and data-driven mindset, capable of collecting, analysing, and interpreting ESG data to drive informed decision-making. Proficiency in using sustainability reporting tools and software is advantageous. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, present complex information in a clear manner, and build strong partnerships across teams and organizations. Proven ability to lead and manage complex projects, coordinate cross-functional teams, and deliver results within established timelines. Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
