Job summary A new and exciting role has been developed within the Acute Oncology Management Service to improve patient experience and flow throughout the hospital. The role will be best suited to an enthusiastic, adaptable and highly motivated individual with excellent communication and organisational skills. The successful candidate will work with both the Christie Hotline team who provide a 24/7 advice line for patients/carers and the Patient Flow team who co-ordinate safe admission, transfer, and discharge across the trust. Experience in health care is required however band 3 experience is not, we are here to help you develop in the role. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential. Main duties of the job Support acute oncology nurse advisors with tasks such as arranging ambulances and organising medication deliveries Assist in basic triage of patients calling the hotline when calls reach maximum wait time and inform callers of wait times for nurse advice. To work with the multi-disciplinary team to provide real time information to patient flow managers regarding bed status Facilitate flow of patients through the hospital by transporting patients from one care setting to another with direction from registered nurses Support care settings in preparing for admissions by preparing bed spaces, communicating with staff regarding transfers and promoting use of transfer lounge Assist staff in care settings with clinical tasks such as venepuncture, specimen sampling and vital signs monitoring in order to prepare patients for transfer Co-ordinate the transfer lounge, managing admissions to lounge including taking handover and liaising with patient flow managers regarding patient suitability for lounge Provide patient centred care and protect the dignity of those in the lounge Facilitate discharges from the transfer lounge by chasing and collecting discharge medications and organising transport Carry out clinical tasks in the transfer lounge which facilitate efficient flow such as rapid swabbing Communicate with colleagues in all appropriate departments regarding potential delays and blockages in patient flow To work within the trust and division policies, protocols and guideline About us The patient flow and hotline teams are friendly and welcoming teams who work closely and have good relationships with a wide range of departments across the trust including both inpatient and outpatient clinical settings. Have a basic understanding of normal and altered blood values and escalate results as appropriate. 6.
