Main Duties of the Job
The remit of the post-holder will be to work within the multi-disciplinary team providing care for women attending the Fetal Medicine and Maternity services. In addition to routine Fetal Medicine Clinics, there are high-risk antenatal clinics focusing on management of women at risk for preterm deliveries, placental disorders, hypertension in pregnancy, and multiple pregnancies.
There will be an opportunity to lead one of these specialist clinics and develop care pathways and services not just for the hospital but regionally in the Kent and Medway Local Maternity System. The successful candidate will also participate in ongoing research and develop new studies. The job description will include Fetal Medicine and Obstetric commitments, and the successful candidate will contribute to the Consultant on-call rota on the delivery suite.
The post will attract 10 programmed activities according to the new consultant contract.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will provide specialist Fetal Medicine Consultant Care in Medway Fetal and Maternal Medicine Centre (MFMC) and support the on-call obstetric rota on the labour ward. A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and the Clinical Director within 3 months of the commencement of the appointment.
For a Whole Time Contract
Direct Clinical Care (DCC): 8.5 programmed activities (on average) per week (includes clinical activity, clinically related activity, predictable and unpredictable emergency work).
Supporting Professional Activities (SPA): 1.5 programmed activities (on average) per week (includes continuing professional development, audit, teaching, and research).
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
* Specialist training in Fetal Medicine or high-risk pregnancy.
* Specialist registration or CCT within 6 months of interview.
* Interest and experience in participating in research in Fetal Medicine and high-risk obstetrics.
* Experience of managing hypertension clinics and placental disorders clinic.
* Research publications & presentations in academic meetings.
Experience
* Experience of teaching junior medical staff.
* Evidence of involvement in undergraduate/postgraduate teaching and education.
* Experience of performing prenatal invasive procedures independently.
* Experience in independent management of labour ward and confident about managing the full range of obstetric complications.
