Dougie Mac are currently looking to recruit Childrens Nurses who share our passion in providing excellent, personalised and compassionate care to children, young people and their families. At Dougie Mac Childrens Hospice, our vision is to be admired as a centre of excellence for delivering nurse led care to children & young people living with palliative and complex care needs and at the end of their lives. Our focus on holistic, needs led care delivery supports children & young people, their families and carers, with physical, emotional, social, psychological and spiritual care, at home, in the community and here at the Hospice.
Main duties of the job
The right candidate will possess excellent communication and organisational skills, a motivation for continual learning and sharing of knowledge, with the drive to ensure our children, young people and families receive the highest possible standard of care. You will work as a member of the Care Team providing support to children and young people with life limiting/life threatening and often complex care needs. This role will be full time/part time working days, flexible to cover 24/7 period. Please read the job description (below) for further details. Job Summary: To work as an autonomous practitioner in assessing, implementing and evaluating nursing care to children, young people and families served by the organisation.Work in partnership with other professionals and agencies to provide planned child and family focused care.To act in an advisory role to other professionals and staff from other agencies in respect of palliative care for children and families. Duties & Responsibilities: Responsibility for Staff Train and assess competence of Care Support Workers Acting as a role model within team, motivating staff and setting an appropriate exampleTo contribute to the training, education and support of a range of both medical and nursing students on clinical placement with the Hospice.Co-ordinate shifts, off duty and sickness records in the absence of Team Leader. Responsibility for the childrens care Assess, plan, implement and evaluate plans of care for children in partnership with child, parents/ carers and other professionals Provide effective care, treatment and management within the hospice and/or community settingTo ensure all documentation is complete and kept up to date in accordance with Hospice policy Liaise with healthcare and social care professionals across organisations to ensure an integrated package of care and support designed to meet the specific needs of the family, is delivered and co-coordinated.Ensure care delivered is delivered to predetermined standardsWork in partnership to actively involve parents/carers and children in the implementation and evaluate of care plans.Provide information for children, young people and families, giving clear ongoing information as the childs illness progresses, ensuring that parents are empowered to maintain control and make informed decisions relating to the care of their child. Contribute to the protection of children at risk in accordance with the area safeguarding procedures. Responsibility for Resources Promote the safe and effective use of equipment and resources Inform and liaise with Team Leader in regard to resource needs, including skill mixHave a good knowledge of equipment available and process of appropriate equipment supply. Essential
1. - Registered Childrens Nurse RNCB
2. - ENB 998 or C&G 7307 or equivalent.
Desirable
3. - Childrens Palliative Care qualification
Experience

4. - Experience of partnership working across agencies including social care, education and the voluntary sector.
5. - Experience of working in a skill mixed team of staff
6. - Experience of working with children with additional needs, physical and / or learning disabilities
7. - Experience of working with children and families with complex needs
8. - Experience of working in different settings
Desirable
9. Experience of working with children with palliative care needs.
