MECHANICAL FITTER - AESTHETICS TEAM
Location: Crawley
Type of role: Contract (6-12 months)
Salary: £19.44--£25.88/hr

Our client is a leading railway infrastructure company dedicated to delivering excellence in rail services and operations. We are looking for skilled Mechanical Fitters with an eye for aesthetics to join our team and contribute to the production and refurbishment of passenger coaches, ensuring they meet high standards in both function and design.
Key Responsibilities
1. Coach Construction & Refurbishment
Construct and assemble new passenger train coaches, ensuring compliance with safety and technical standards.
Refurbish and modify existing train carriages to improve performance, durability, and aesthetics.
2. Aesthetic Detailing
Apply finishes, trims, and upholstery to interiors, ensuring they meet design and passenger comfort specifications.
Work on exterior elements such as painting, decals, and body panel alignment to enhance the visual appeal of the train coaches.
Use specialized tools and materials to implement quality finishes on all surfaces.
3. Materials & Equipment Management
Work with various materials including metals, plastics, wood, composites, and glass.
Operate a range of power tools and machinery to assemble components and carry out detailed work on interiors and exteriors.
Maintain tools and equipment in good working order, adhering to safety standards.
4. Collaborative Design Implementation
Work closely with designers, engineers, and quality control teams to ensure the vehicle's design vision is met.
Provide suggestions and feedback on design improvements and material choices, particularly related to interior and exterior aesthetics.
5. Quality Control & Inspection
Inspect and assess structural integrity and visual elements of coaches, ensuring they meet industry regulations and the company's high standards.
Conduct visual checks on all aesthetic features such as panel alignment, paintwork, upholstery, and finish to ensure premium quality.
6. Problem Solving & Maintenance
Diagnose and repair any issues related to structural or aesthetic defects.
Ensure that all modifications and repairs are recorded and documented as part of ongoing maintenance logs.
Experience & Skills
1. Proficiency in the use of hand and power tools, as well as an understanding of carpentry, welding, and metalworking techniques.
2. Knowledge of upholstery, paint, varnish, and trim application.
3. Relevant certifications or apprenticeship in Coach Building, Vehicle Body Repair, or a work-related field.
4. Relevant experience in a mechanical/electrical engineering environment.
