Summary Being a Volunteering and Community Officer is all about connecting with people. It’s about helping everyone to get involved and feel welcome at National Trust places. Working with volunteers and local communities, you’ll be making a vital contribution to the Trust’s cause of protecting and caring for places so that people and nature can thrive – now and into the future. The working pattern is 4 days a week including one weekend day per week. (Currently this works as a Saturday one week, Sunday the next with the week days changing week by week – but this is something that can be discussed and set patterns are possible within the weekend working structure if preferable). This role may involve managing volunteers. This is a fixed term contract due to end when the postholder returns to the role. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 12 months. What it's like to work here You will be reporting to the Visitor Operations and Experience Manager, working alongside the Senior Visitor Experience Officer, Site Manager at Nuffield Place, and Senior Programming and Partnerships Officer. You will support volunteer managers and develop the volunteer offer across Basildon Park, Greys Court and Nuffield Place and lead the Volunteer led support teams for each place.Basildon Park is an 18th Century mansion, saved from destruction by Lord and Lady Iliffe in the 1950s. A true labour of love, the Iliffes spent nearly 50 years renovating and returning the house to its former glory. Just 12 miles away is Greys Court – a picturesque Tudor manor house set in the rolling Chiltern hills, which was home to the Brunner family until recent years and still exudes a welcoming atmosphere, with homely living rooms and outside a series of walled gardens. Nuffield Place is the last of the three places you’ll work at, down the road from Greys Court. Nuffield Place reveals the surprisingly down-to-earth lives of Lord Nuffield, founder of Morries Motor Company and his wife – a comfortable home, exuding their takes and interests, with original décor and their personal possessions in place. You’ll be joining a collaborative team, with the opportunity in this role to effect change and growth in across all departments as you work with the leadership team to enhance the volunteering offer and scope opportunities within the local community to deepen their connections with the three sites. What you'll be doing As our Volunteering and Community Officer, you'll be supporting the wider team by exploring and building links with the local community. You’ll help to make this a flexible, positive and inclusive place for partners, community groups and current and future volunteers to get involved. You’ll be working with several Trust teams at different sites on various projects, so your days will be full of variety. This may mean helping to run established community-led events, as well as coming up with new ideas for activities. You’ll develop new ways of working together, and deepen relationships with existing and new audiences.
