The job requirements are detailed below. Where applicable the skills, qualifications and memberships required for this job have also been included.
Research Officer (0.6FTE, fixed term 18 months)
You are invited to apply for the role of Research Officer on a qualitative interview study, funded by Bowel Research UK and Cystic Fibrosis Trust, examining bowel cancer screening and surveillance for people with cystic fibrosis (CF).
This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about qualitative research that aims to improve health care and patient outcomes. You will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Professor Laura Ashley, and with the wider research team of academic and clinical colleagues including Professor Daniel Peckham and Dr Mo Thoufeeq.
As the study Research Officer you will be a key member of the team supporting day-to-day management and delivery of the research project. Your main duties will include recruiting and interviewing people with CF and health care professionals, leading on data analysis, and contributing to write-up and dissemination of the findings.
People with CF have a higher risk of developing bowel cancer, and at a younger age. Bowel cancer screening and surveillance can prevent bowel cancers by removing pre-cancerous cells and catch bowel cancers early when more treatable. People with CF require more intensive bowel cancer screening than standard provision; the CF Foundation recommends colonoscopy screening from age 40. CF care teams have begun to introduce tailored bowel cancer screening and surveillance, but provision is unequal and underdeveloped. Interviews will examine the challenges and needs of clinicians and patients around providing and receiving CF-tailored bowel cancer screening and surveillance information, support, and care, and ways to address these.
This is a part-time role (60%FTE) for 18 months, starting 1st April 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter) until 30th September 2026. Flexible working (e.g., some home-based working) is permitted provided the requirements of the job can be met.
Working here means you’ll also have access to a wide range of benefits including our generous pension schemes, excellent holiday entitlements, flexible working, reduced study fees, subsidised fitness facilities and a lot more.
We welcome applications from all individuals and particularly from black and minority ethnic candidates as members of these groups are currently under-represented at this level of post. All appointments will be based on merit.
