Microbiology Quality Section Manager (Senior Biomedical Scientist)

We have an exciting opportunity for a band 7 Biomedical Scientist Quality section manager in Microbiology at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.
You will work closely with the rest of the microbiology management team to ensure the department delivers a service accredited to ISO 15189 standards and continues to provide a high standard of service to our users.
Microbiology is part of Coventry and Warwickshire pathology services (CWPS), which provides pathology services to hospitals and primary care across Coventry and Warwickshire. The Microbiology service is based at the UHCW site.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the department alongside other members of the Microbiology senior team and provide expert Microbiology technical knowledge to staff and service users. Collaboration with the Training, Performance, and IT leads for Microbiology is expected.
We seek an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and flexible individual capable of leading a team within our Network and driving improvements to deliver a high-quality, first-class Microbiology service.
The successful candidate will be an integral part of a supportive management team across the Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology services network.
Main duties of the job
1. Manage and supervise staff performing routine and specialized diagnostic services on patient and environmental samples, using complex techniques to medical and scientific standards, including performing diagnostic tests when necessary.
2. Design and plan departmental rotas, allocate work schedules, and determine work priorities to meet service needs.
3. Support the Department Manager in planning, developing, coordinating, and evaluating the pathology service; deputize as required.
4. Record, validate, interpret, and authorize complex results, communicating reports to authorized recipients such as medical and nursing staff.
5. Proficiently use the Quality Management System to develop and manage controlled documentation, non-conformities, and audit reports.

Job responsibilities
1. Coordinate internal and external quality assurance schemes, oversee compliance, and implement improvements.
2. Manage laboratory aspects of ISO/CPA standards, MHRA requirements, HTA regulations, HSE requirements, and statutory regulations, ensuring service delivery aligns with these standards.
3. Ensure adherence to quality assurance procedures, maintain records, lead departmental meetings, and communicate effectively.
4. Manage and monitor equipment maintenance, troubleshoot faults, and support staff to ensure accurate results.
5. Achieve and maintain performance targets, manage KPIs, staff attendance, and training compliance.
6. Collect and interpret data for reports and meetings.
7. Propose and oversee the implementation of new techniques, equipment, and practices.
8. Provide departmental expertise and manage resources efficiently.
9. Handle complex inquiries, record information, and follow up on complaints.
